about
Roland Fatime or “Ti l’Afrique” as one would call him, was one of the leading figures of Soul Sega in the mid-70s in Mauritius. Considered as a new sub-genre at the time, this sound emerged as an alternative take on the island’s own Sega music. Soul Sega would bear strong elements and influence from Blues and Rock ’n’ roll.
With the critically acclaimed success of hit singles La Misière Noire and Pop Soul Sega, “Ti L’Afrique” became a major actor of the Soul Sega scene in the 70s. These 2 gems underwent a thorough process of remastering by Babani Records to be brought back to life as part of their restoration series but also to highlight the exquisite groove of a particular time in Mauritian musical history.
The influence of steel guitar on genres like Delta blues and country has long been underrepresented; this compilation aims to set the record straight. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 5, 2022
Another golden compilation from AA! Great introduction to Afro-Colombian psychedelia via the Discos Machuca back catalogue. These songs are full of infectious percussion, trance-inducing rhythms, sun-soaked melodies, and hauntingly beautiful vocals. Hard to pick a favourite song, but I've played side D the most. j j headington
